I recently spent a few days in San Diego for an event with my host agency, Nexion. If you follow me at all, you know that I love industry events, and I honestly mean that. A lot of people in the industry don't enjoy them, they feel they're more obligated than privileged to attend. Not me.
Again, if you follow me at all, you know that I'm an early riser to begin with. And when you throw in my processing the information from the previous day and/or remembering people and conversations, you get the idea that my conference days are very, very long. In the lobby at 3:30am, getting coffee and sitting outside making mental notes and preparing for the day to come isn't at all unusual for me while on conference. (My bedtime also becomes later, so how I hold up by the end of these conferences is a matter of much debate.)
That above paragraph has no significance whatsoever to the "light bulb" moment, but it's true and it's pretty, so deal.
Back to the "light bulb". So I'm at the conference and I'm outside between sessions and I'm speaking with a very charming gentleman and his lovely wife. They offer safari tours and asked me first about my own personal interest in visiting Africa and doing a safari. I explained my fear of bugs and we laughed. Kinda made sense to me that the bugs out there have plenty to feed on without feasting on lil ole me. They have bigger (not by much, but bigger nonetheless) and better things to chow down on.
He then offered to come out to my office and speak with my staff to teach them about African Safaris. Well, I may have an office, but I certainly have no staff so we were all prepared to let it go at that. But something felt unfinished to me. Something was wrong.
As a travel professional I attend webinars all the time and I had noticed some time back that when signing out of said webinars, there was always a little button on the page to click to host your own webinars. LIGHTBULB!
My sweet safari couple had already left my side on the balcony and walked down the stairs to the parking lot below, but damned if I didn't act like an old fishwife and yell down the stairs for everyone and his brother to hear me ask if he'd be interested in doing a webinar. He was and we agreed to talk via phone after the conference.
After I returned home I researched and thought and then thought some more and decided that my clients deserve to hear first-hand from not only this one tour operator, but a nice cross-section of travel opportunities and destinations.
So it's in that vain that I'm honored to present Travel Thursdays with Nancy! Beginning in November, Thursday evenings starting between 6:30 - 7pm PST I will be bringing you speakers from some of the best in the industry live and for free.
Participants will be able to learn about such travel opportunities as: Air New Zealand Vacations, American Queen Steamboat Company, CIE Tours, ClubMed, Holland America Line, Ntaba African Safaris, Seabourn, Viking River Cruise and Visit Anchorage!
And that's just the start! There are more conversations going, and I expect the list to get longer before too long. So, if you're interested in the Travel Thursdays with Nancy! webinar series, be sure to like and follow my Facebook Business page and click the Contact Us button for the schedule and updates. www.facebook.com/NancyGilliardTravel
